THE HARVEST-TO-HANDOFF FIELDBOOK / Pack a better brief

Leave the supplier with answerable questions.

A focused brief connects the produce operation to the decisions a packaging supplier needs to confirm.

Start with product and process

Describe the intended use, product range, daily volume and timing. Include filling, storage, transport and receiving conditions. Clearly identify information still to be measured or confirmed.

Ask about the supplied system

Request construction, assembled dimensions, base compatibility, contact-material documentation, assembly instructions and appropriate validation. Identify any component your own operation supplies. Keep generic descriptions separate from the final specification.

Close the commercial loop

Confirm quantity, availability, lead time, pricing and transport after the technical questions are resolved. A web enquiry does not reserve inventory. Record the final agreed version and the changes that need another review.
