THE HARVEST-TO-HANDOFF FIELDBOOK / Follow the harvest

Send the bin specification with the dispatch brief.

A distributor needs the packed-unit description and receiving plan as well as the delivery date.

Describe the dispatched unit

Record actual container design, assembled dimensions and final packed weight when known. State the counting method used for melons and containers. Keep incomplete or mixed groups identifiable.

Confirm handling and access

Check loading and unloading arrangements with the transport provider and recipient. Include the base configuration and any orientation requirements. Do not assume the destination can handle the same arrangement as the packing site.

Reconcile the count at handoff

Agree how changes, damaged packaging or count differences are recorded. Keep the responsible contacts with the shipment documents. The receiving team should be able to match what arrived to the agreed brief.
